The first battle between the Dragons and the Mustangs needed overtime to find the winner.
This was the first time these two teams have met in the 2017-2018 season. Neither team was sure what to expect from each other. The Mustangs have had a better season so far compared to their last couple of years. That could also be said of the Dragons.
Calgary opened up the scoring very early in the first period. With only 50 seconds expired off the clock, Brady Barclay scored to make it 1 - 0 Mustangs. Drumheller evened it up 4 minutes later when Brayden Nicholetts scored his sixth of the year from Brady Risk to make it 1 - 1. Calgary regained the lead at 9:49 when Chase Miller scored on the power play. After 1, Calgary lead 2 - 1. The Dragons out shot the Mustangs 14 - 11.
In the second, Drumheller had their chances as well as Calgary but both goaltenders did what they needed to do to keep the score 2 - 1 Calgary. Drumheller again out shot Calgary 10 - 6 in the period. It was a fairly even period.
The thrid was similar to the second, with both teams having good chances. Drumheller had thought they had tied the game when the puck went in, while they were on the power play, around the midway mark of the third. It was waived off. The goaltender for the Mustangs, Kurtis Chapman, had his helmet knocked off just before the puck crossed the goal line. Drumheller did tie the game later in the period when Carson Kurylo shot a wrist shot from the left point and it made it though a maze of players as well as the goalie. It was Carson's fourth of the season from Markus Boguslavsky. The game remained tied and went to overtime. Dumheller out shot Calgary in the period 13 - 9.
Overtime was over quickly. Drumheller's Brett Edwards picked up the puck in his own zone and worked up the left side. He tucked a shot five hole and beat Chapman to give Drumheller the victory. It was Edward's 10th of the year from Andrew Kartusch. Final score 3 - 2 Drumheller.

Tough Road Loss For The Dragons
Drumheller took to the road tonight to take on the Calgary Mustangs at Father David Bauer Arena. This is the first time the Dragons have played there this season. This is one the Dragons would like to forget.
Drumheller opened the scoring at 10:26 of the first peroid when Joren Patenaude scored his ninth of the year from Tyler Kreklewich. Calgary tied it up just over a minute later when Joseph Karpyshyn scored his fifteenth of the season. Calgary made it 2 – 1 with 3:08 left in the first when Brad Forrest scored his third of the year. Drumheller out shot Calgary 15 – 8 in the period.
The Dragons struggled in the second to get any sustained pressure. They did get the shots but could not solve Mustangs goaltender Ashton Abel. Calgary increased their lead midway through the second when Logan Heimann scored his first of the year off a rebound of Hunter Virostek. The Mustangs lead 3 – 1 after 2. Drumheller again out shot Calgary 17 – 13.
Drumheller continued to put shots on Abel but could not get anything by him. Calgary capitalized on the power play with under 5 minutes left to go when Daniel Rybarik scored his 10th of the year. Drumheller gave up a short handed goal just 19 seconds later when Ryan Stoyanich outworked the Dragons defense. The Mustangs scored their 6th goal with 1:29 left to go whene Chase Miller scored five hole on Hunter Virostek. Final shots favoured the Dragons 46 – 35. Final score 6 – 1 Mustangs.
